Welcome to the Episode 20 of “The Gnosis Series” !!
If you are new to my Gnosis series, here’s some background – Gnosis is a Greek word for Knowledge. This series includes short articles on Leadership, Management, Project Management and many more to enlighten / motivate my readers.
One of my favourite recent conversations with a mentee started with a simple but loaded question: “Should I chase money or follow my passion, even if it pays less?”
I loved the honesty of this question – it’s raw, real, and something so many of us wrestle with. That’s why I am writing this.
Here’s my take: I never believed in “follow your passion, not money” as blanket advice. Here’s what I believe in:
1. Money enables choices: It’s not just about luxury; it’s about freedom, security, and the ability to take risks.
2. Passion alone isn’t a strategy: Love what you do? Great. Now ask yourself: How do I make it sustainable?
3. The sweet spot? ‘Growth’: Whether it’s wealth, skills, or impact – ‘stagnation’ is the real enemy.
The best careers aren’t built on ‘either/or’ but on ‘how can I have both?’
