This topic seems to be an easy one but I have often seen PMs getting confused between a project goal & a project objective.

Short answer to this question will be – NO.
How?: – While they relate to one another, the goals and objectives serve different purposes. The goal is usually a high level target set by the business which is the underlying driver behind a project (and how they put the budget towards it). The objective is the detailed outline of the big picture of the project. Imagine a connect the dot diagram, the goals are the dots but the objectives are the numbers. The objectives help direct you to the end result of the project.
Here’s an example: –
Goal: – Build a better UX for our Users.
Objective: – A xyz based website which will be ready for production by November 2020. Users can get to high profile content in three clicks or less.

I hope this article (comparatively a short one) would have helped you in understanding the difference between a project goal v/s a project objective.

Well explained. In other words it can be said the objective is the path to achieve goal. Or objectives are the small steps which help as to attain our organisational goals. As a Management educator I will definitely recommend my students to read your article. Thank you for sharing 😊
