Blog no. 17 – How to improve your productivity

We all have been in a position where we have struggled to close all our action items within the expected timeline or missed to execute an action.

There are multiple strategies to increase your productivity, such as time management and proper use of resources. Productivity is also directly correlated with your mental health, stress levels and anxiety.

This blog will help you in managing your work volumes efficiently as they are tried & tested by Myself & many others.

1. Weekly goals – Setting at least one goal per day can lead to an entire productive week. Use simple, realistic and measurable goals.

2. Use a planner – Planners keep all your tasks organised into one notebook. Use vibrant colours, highlighters, and stickers to draw attention to important tasks. There are various tools which can be used to create & maintain a planner; for e.g. One Note, MS Excel, Notebook (old ways of working), Miro board (online web based sticky notes), etc.

3. Take breaks – When working on an action, take a break on a regular basis (~every 30-45 mins – break for 30 secs to 1 min). This allows your brain to refocus & recharge. Breaks can be – Stretching, quick walk in your room / house, hydrating yourself, etc.

4. Prioritising your work – Rank your To-Do list as per their deadline / criticality. Start with the most important task and work your way down. This ensures you complete your more critical assignments (P1) even if you are unable to complete your entire To-Do list.

5. Schedule tasks – Use resources like Google Calendar or even Microsoft Outlook to schedule your weekly tasks. Set up reminds or alarms thorough your phone to remind you of important due dates. You can also use smart assistants to setup reminders, like Amazon’s Alexa, Google Home, Apple’s Siri, etc.

6. Change environment – It’s easy to get distracted in a noisy environment, or at your own home where the TV is within close reach. Get your work done in a quieter environment such as the library. And in a Work at Home space, I highly recommend you to setup a desk space i/o working a comfy space like your bed or sofa as it kills your productivity.
