The Gnosis Series – Episode 23 – The Leadership Skill of Looking Beyond “Yes”

Welcome to the Episode 23 of “The Gnosis Series” !!

If you are new to my Gnosis series, here’s some background – Gnosis is a Greek word for Knowledge. This series includes short articles on Leadership, Management, Project Management and many more to enlighten / motivate my readers.

Before I start with the topic, I have something interesting to offer for you all – It’s Free!

Just read this great line from Marshall Goldsmith:

Don’t just listen to words, read faces.

It immediately reminded me of a leadership training I once attended.

It made me think of those moments when you’re presenting a big shift in strategy. Everyone is verbally on board, saying, “This is the right direction,” and, “We are fully behind this.”

If you only heard the words, you would leave confident.

But the training emphasized that sometimes a face tells a different story. A slightly distant look when discussing implementation. A hesitant nod from a key stakeholder. That’s where the real dialogue is waiting.

The words give you the green light, but the faces show you the caution signs.

Picking up on that and pausing – “I want to pause here, it feels like there might be a practical concern” can change everything. It builds the trust needed to turn alignment into action.

The biggest insights often aren’t said aloud. They are right there in the room, if you are looking.

Lastly

Audio of the week. I am completely obsessed with this title. The narrator is fantastic, and the story is incredibly immersive. It is one of those rare audiobooks that actually makes you sad when it ends. You can find it on Amazon right here. (Full disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.)
